　　If you choose only to complain and escaperom the ordeal, it will always follow you wherever you go. But if you decide to be strong, the hardship will turn out to be a fortune on which new hopes will arise.

　　He lost his arms in an accident that claimed his father's life—who was the main source of support for the family. Since then, he has had to depend on the arms of his younger brother. For the sake of taking care of him, his younger brother became his shadow, never leaving him alone for years. Except for writing with his toes, he was completely unable to do anything in his life.

　　One late night, he suffered from diarrhea and had to wake up his younger brother. His younger brother accompanied him into the toilet and then went back the dorm to wait. But being so tired, his younger brother fell asleep, leaving him on the toilet for two hours till the teacher on duty discovered him. As the two brothers grew up together, they had their share of problems and they would often quarrel. Then one day, his younger brother wanted to live separate from him, living his own life, as many normal people do. So he was heart-broken and didn't know what to do.

　　A similar misfortune befell a girl, too. One night her mother, who suffered from chronic mental illness disappeared. So her father went out looking for her mother, leaving her alone at home. She tried to prepare meals for her parents, only to overturn the kerosene light on the stove, resulting in a fire which took her hands away.

　　Though her elder sister who was studying in another city, showed her willingness to take care of her, she was determined to be completely independent. At school, she always studied hard. Most of all she learned to be self-reliant. Once she wrote the following in her composition: "I am lucky. Though I lost my arms, I still have legs; I am lucky. Though my wings are broken, my heart can still fly."

　　One day, the boy and the girl were both invited to appear on a television interview program. The boy told the TV host about his uncertain future at being left on his own, whereas the girl was full of enthusiasm for her life. They both were asked to write something on a piece of paper with their toes. The boy wrote: My younger brother's arms are my arms;while the girl wrote: Broken wings, flying heart.

　　They had both endured the same ordeal, but their different attitudes determined the nature of their lives. It is true that life is unpredictable. Disasters can strike at any time. How you handle misfortune when confronted with it, is the true test of your character. If you choose only to complain and escape from the ordeal, it will always follow you wherever you go. But if you decide to be strong, the hardship will turn out to be a fortune on which new hopes will arise.

　　面對苦難，如果選擇抱怨與逃避，苦難就永遠(yuǎn)如影隨形;但如果選擇堅(jiān)強(qiáng)，苦難便會化作甘泉，滋潤美好的希望。

　　在一次事故中，作為家中頂梁柱的父親永遠(yuǎn)地離去了，他也因此失去了雙手。從此弟弟的手便成了他的手。為了照顧他，弟弟從小到大總是形影不離地跟在他的身邊，他除了學(xué)會了用腳趾頭寫字做作業(yè)外，生活上完全不能自理。

　　有一次，他因腸胃不好，半夜起來要上廁所，于是他叫醒了弟弟。弟弟幫著他進(jìn)了廁所后，就回宿舍躺下了。由于太勞累，弟弟閉上眼就睡著了。結(jié)果他在廁所里等了整整兩個(gè)小時(shí)，才被查夜的老師發(fā)現(xiàn)。慢慢長大了的兩兄弟也有了煩惱和爭執(zhí)，有一天弟弟終于提出要離開他，因?yàn)榈艿芤�和很多正常人一樣需要過自己的生活。為此，他很傷心，不知如何是好。

　　無獨(dú)有偶，另一個(gè)女孩也有著同樣的遭遇。因?yàn)閶寢岄L期患有精神病，在一天晚上無故出走，爸爸去找媽媽了，家中便只留下她一人。她決定做好飯菜等爸爸媽媽回來吃，卻不小心將灶臺上的煤油燈打翻，結(jié)果雙手便被大火奪走了。

　　雖然在外地讀書的姐姐愿意照顧她，可倔強(qiáng)的她一定要自己照顧自己。在學(xué)校，她不但讀書認(rèn)真，更重要的是她學(xué)會了生活自理。她曾在一篇英作文里寫道：我幸福，雖然斷了雙手，但我還擁有一雙腳;我幸福，雖然翅膀斷了，但心也要飛翔……

　　有一天，他們被一家電視臺邀請到了演播室。面對主持人，男孩表現(xiàn)出了對前途的迷茫，而女孩則對生活充滿了熱情。主持人要求他們分別在一張白紙上寫一句話。他們分別用腳趾頭夾起了筆，男孩寫的是：“弟弟的手便是我的手。”女孩卻寫下了：“翅膀斷了，心也要飛翔。”

　　他們倆都經(jīng)受了同樣的苦難，但不同的人生態(tài)度卻決定了其生活的本質(zhì)。是的，人生多變幻，苦難總是在不知不覺中驟然降臨。如何應(yīng)對苦難，是對你的性格的真正考驗(yàn)。面對苦難，如果選擇抱怨與逃避，苦難就永遠(yuǎn)如影隨形;但如果選擇堅(jiān)強(qiáng)，苦難便會化作甘泉，滋潤美好的希望。

　　英語人生哲理小故事二：獅子國王

　　THE BEASTS of the field and forest had a Lion as their king. He was neither wrathful, cruel, nor tyrannical, but just and gentle as a king could be. During his reign he made a royal proclamation for a general assembly of all the birds and beasts, and drew up conditions for a universal league, in which the Wolf and the Lamb, the Panther and the Kid, the Tiger and the Stag, the Dog and the Hare, should live together in perfect peace and amity.

　　The Hare said, "Oh, how I have longed to see this day, in which the weak shall take their place with impunity by the side of the strong." And after the Hare said this, he ran for his life.

　　野兔，“我祈禱能得到這樣的日 子，那時(shí)弱者就不怕被強(qiáng)者傷害了”后，兔子說完后，他趕緊逃命去了。

　　英語人生哲理小故事三：斷尾的狐貍

　　A tail-lost fox

　　A fox’s tail was caught in a trap. When he was trying to release himself, he lost his whole tail except the stump.

　　At first he was ashamed to see the other foxes because he had no tail, but he was determined to face his misfortune. He called all the foxes to a meeting.

　　When they had gotten together, the fox said that they should all do away with their tails. He said that their tails were very inconvenient when they met with their enemies. He did not talk about any advantages of the tail.

　　"You are right," said one of the older foxes, "but I don’t think you would advise us to do away with our tails if you hadn’t lost it yourself first."

　　一只狐貍的尾巴被夾住了，當(dāng)他試著脫身的時(shí)候，掙斷了整條尾巴。

　　開始時(shí)，他看到其他狐貍的時(shí)候感到很羞愧。后來，他決定面對這種不幸，就召集了所有的狐貍開會。

　　大家到齊后，他極力勸說其他狐貍也割掉尾巴，說尾巴在遭遇敵人時(shí)很不方便，尾巴一點(diǎn)兒作用也沒有。

　　一只老狐貍站出來說：“如果你沒有失去你的尾巴，你是不會來勸大家都割去尾巴的。 ”

　　寓意: 有些人為了自己的.利益而勸告他人，我們不能輕信他們的意見。
