　　Wealth Success and Love

　　財(cái)富、成功和愛

　　A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said, "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."

　　"Is the man of the house home?", they asked. "No", she replied, "He's out." "Then we cannot come in", they replied. In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. "Go tell them I am home and invite them in!" The woman went out and invited the men in. "We do not go into a House together," they replied. "Why is that?" she asked.

　　One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, "and he is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home."

　　The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!" His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?" Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Wouldn't it be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love." "Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice," said the husband to his wife. "Go out and invite Love to be our guest."

　　The woman went out and asked the three old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest."

　　Love got up and started walking toward the house.

　　The other two also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"

　　The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would have stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!"

　　譯文：

　　三個(gè)白須飄然的老人坐在婦人家院前歇腳，三人中，一個(gè)是“財(cái)富”，一個(gè)是“成功”，一個(gè)是“愛”。婦人邀請(qǐng)他們進(jìn)屋，三個(gè)老者笑呵呵地謝了她，身子卻沒動(dòng)。

　　婦人惑然。三個(gè)老人說：“我們不能同時(shí)進(jìn)屋呀!不過，你可以去和你的家人商量，看你們最需要我們中的哪一個(gè)。”

　　婦人便進(jìn)屋把老人的話說了。丈夫驚喜道：“既然如此，我們就邀請(qǐng)財(cái)富老人吧，請(qǐng)他進(jìn)來(lái)，讓我們的屋里裝滿財(cái)富!”

　　婦人不同意：“親愛的，我們?yōu)槭裁床谎��?qǐng)成功老人呢?做一切事情都能成功，那感覺會(huì)有多好!”

　　這時(shí)候，兒媳插嘴進(jìn)來(lái)，說：“我們還是邀請(qǐng)愛吧，讓我們的家時(shí)時(shí)處處都充滿愛。”

　　“那我們就聽兒媳的吧!”一對(duì)夫婦朝兒媳點(diǎn)點(diǎn)頭。

　　于是婦人出門，邀請(qǐng)愛的老人進(jìn)屋作客。誰(shuí)知愛的老人起身，成功

　　The Lion, The Bear And The Fox(獅子、熊與狐貍)Long ago a lion and a bear saw a kid. They sprang upon it at the same time. The lion said to the bear, “I caught this kid first, and so this is mine.”

　　"No, no," said the bear.“I found it earlier than you, so this is mine.” And they fought long and fiercely. At last both of them got very tired and could no longer fight.

　　A fox who hid himself behind a tree not far away and was watching the fight between the lion and the bear, came out and walked in between them, and ran off with the kid.

　　The lion and the bear both saw the fox, but they could not even catch the fox.

　　The lion said to the bear, “We have fought for nothing. That sly fox has got the kid away.”

　　Love Is Just a Thread

　　Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. Every day they are very busy trying to earn money in order to pay the high tuition for my brother and me. They don’t act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. In their opinion, “I love you” is too luxurious for them to say. Sending flowers to each other on Valentine’s Day is even more out of the question. Finally my father has a bad temper. When he’s very tired from the hard work, it is easy for him to lose his temper.

　　有時(shí)候，我真的懷疑父母之間是否有真愛。他們天天忙于賺錢，為我和弟弟支付學(xué)費(fèi)。他們從未像我在書中讀到，或在電視中看到的那樣互訴衷腸。他們認(rèn)為“我愛你”太奢侈，很難說出口。更不用說在情人節(jié)送花這樣的事了。我父親的脾氣非常壞。經(jīng)過一天的勞累之后，他經(jīng)常會(huì)發(fā)脾氣。

　　One day, my mother was sewing a quilt. I silently sat down beside her and looked at her.

　　“Mom, I have a question to ask you,” I said after a while.

　　I listened carefully but I couldn’t understand her until the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. When they returned from the hospital, they both looked very pale. It seemed both of them had had a serious illness.

　　我仔細(xì)地聽著，卻無(wú)法明白她的話，直到第二年春天。那時(shí)候，我父親突然得了重病。母親在醫(yī)院里待了一個(gè)月。當(dāng)他們從醫(yī)院回來(lái)的時(shí)候，都顯得非常蒼白，就像他們都得了一場(chǎng)重病一樣。

　　After they were back, every day in the morning and dusk, my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road. My father had never been so gentle. It seemed they were the most harmonious couple. Along the country road, there were many beautiful flowers, green grass and trees. The sungently glistened through the leaves. All of these made up the most beautiful picture in the world.
